The Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur is currently a guest at the Westhof of the St. Johann monastery in Müstair. As part of an exhibition by the artist Abraham David Christian, sculptures by the artist can be seen at various locations in Graubünden.
A bronze sculpture from 2003 was selected for St. Johann Monastery together with the artist and the Artistic Director of the Bündner Kunstmuseum, Stephan Kunz. On the wall of the west wing in the former farmyard, it enters into a dialog with the traces of history that have been visibly inscribed in the stonework. In this precisely positioned form, in direct proximity to the Carolingian foundations of the monastery, it is intended to fit into the local conditions of space and time as if it had been there for a long time. In this way, it also takes into account the long history of the monastery, which has been inhabited by Benedictine monks and nuns for over 1200 years.
The exhibition at the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur is entitled "Beyond Language" and runs from September 16, 2023 to January 7, 2024. Further sculptures can be seen at selected locations such as St. Peter in Mistail, San Gaudenzio and Bondo in Bergell as well as at the church in the Avers Valley.

Born in Düsseldorf in 1952, Abraham David Christian has been an internationally active artist with studios in Düsseldorf, New York, Hayama (Japan) and, for a few years now, Chur, since his first participation in documenta 5 in Kassel at the age of 20.
By dating it to 2003, the sculpture also relates to the monastery's museum, which was founded in 2003 and exhibits works of art from the Carolingian foundation of the monastery to recent times.
