Guided tour of the Chapel of the Holy Cross on Ascension Day
Description
The Carolingian Chapel of the Holy Cross can only be visited on a guided tour. It stands somewhat apart today, but was once integrated into the monastery complex.
Like the monastery church, the chapel dates from the 8th century and thus from the time of Charlemagne.
The original Carolingian mortar floor is visible on the upper floor. Up to ten layers of paint and whitewash once covered the walls of the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The guided tour will give you an insight into the wall paintings from different eras and tell you more about the once precious furnishings of this chapel.
On Saturday, May 11, 2024 we offer a guided tour at 10:30 am
On this day, there will also be a guided tour of the church and monastery museum at 14:00. If you take part in both guided tours (church & monastery museum and Holy Cross Chapel), you will receive a reduced admission price. Ask in the monastery store
The guided tour lasts approx. 50 minutes and is included in the admission price.
