Cinema art in the monastery with Susanna Fanzun and "The Brides of Jesus"

What do the sisters of Müstair and Alberto Giacometti have in common? They were both honored by the Grisons filmmaker Susanna Fanzun with a portrait.
To mark International Museum Day on May 18, Müstair Abbey is inviting visitors to a special experience this year. Together with the Rhaeto-Romanic filmmaker, we will embark on a cinematic journey through time: Susanna Fanzun accompanied the sisters' community in their everyday lives for a year in 1998. The result is "The Brides of Jesus", a touching portrait of the women in the convent.
As with her film "I Giacometti" from 2023, Susanna Fanzun succeeds in creating an atmospheric, quiet and yet never boring portrait that focuses on encounters with the sisters and their joys, sorrows and longings. Many of the sisters' statements are touching and thought-provoking.
In their close-up view, the film's content develops a strong connection to today's world, in which solidarity, deceleration and distance from stressful everyday life are more important than ever.

Following the film, there will be an opportunity for a discussion with Susanna Fanzun.

International Museum Day "Museums. Education and Research" with an open day at the new Selm museum This year, International Museum Day on May 18 will be held under the motto "Museums. Education and Research". We are taking this as an opportunity to show the film in the newly renovated Chasa Selm. Located to the north-west of the St. Johann monastery, the farm is one of the oldest in Müstair. After a gentle renovation, the stable now presents itself as a modern venue for scientific conferences, practical craft courses, cinema films and much more.
