Description
On quiet alpine and pass trails – from the bus stop in the middle of the small mountain village of S-charl (at 1800 m above sea level) the path ascends steadily through the highest larch forest in Europe past Alp Astras to the Pass da Costainas (at 2251 m above sea level). Short, steep descent to Alp Champatsch. The alp buildings of Champatsch were reconstructed in 1986; the old houses from 1825 now stand in the open-air museum Ballenberg. Then follows a steady descent to Lü.
Geheimtipp
A visit to the Schmelzra Museum with the bear exhibition is very worthwhile. The experience-oriented exhibition provides insight into the past, the way of life, biology, and the return of the brown bears. It is especially suitable for children.

On the immediately adjacent bear experience trail, nine interactive stations amaze young and old guests and convey practical tips for behavior in a bear area.

- By the Rhaetian Railway (from Chur, Landquart/Prättigau, or from the Upper Engadin) hourly to Scuol-Tarasp station
- Then with the PostBus to the PostBus stop S-charl
Anreise Information
- From the north: via Landquart – Klosters by car shuttle through the Vereina tunnel (Selfranga - Sagliains) or over the Flüela Pass into the Lower Engadin on H27, to Scuol and then towards S-charl
- From the east: via Landeck / Austria towards Reschen Pass, to Martina on the H27 to Crusch, to Scuol and then towards S-charl
- From the south: via Reschen Pass to Martina, then towards St. Moritz on the H27 to Scuol and then towards S-charl.
