Description

Steep route over slippery scree fields to the end of the game-rich Val Trupchun. The route can be undertaken as an extension of the hike to Alp Trupchun (Val Trupchun) and offers good opportunities for observing ibex.

The Swiss National Park (SNP) offers a guided day hike to Val Trupchun every Thursday (during the red deer rut in autumn also Fridays). Details at www.nationalpark.ch/

Ausrüstung

Sturdy hiking boots or mountain boots, warm clothing, sun and rain protection, trekking poles if needed, binoculars recommended.

Directions

From S-chanf or Prasüras, hike via the high or valley trail to Alp Trupchun (2040 m a.s.l.) (see route "Val Trupchun"). From Alp Trupchun, follow a narrow but well-maintained path through several scree fields. The last approximately 300 vertical meters are across slippery scree to the pass summit at Fuorcla Trupchun (2782 m a.s.l.) on the border with Italy. Return on the same path back to Alp Trupchun or continue on the Italian side on a steep and marked path through Valle del Saliente to Livigno.

  •  By the Rhaetian Railway (from Chur, Prättigau, Upper and Lower Engadin) hourly to S-chanf
  • By bus (Engadin Bus line 7) from the stop S-chanf, Chesa Cumünela (or also directly from the stations in Zuoz and Zernez) to the stop S-chanf, Parc Naziunal (at the Prasüras parking lot)
  • With the "Express Parc Naziunel" directly from S-chanf station to the Varusch park hut (at the park boundary in Val Trupchun), timetable at http://alpintrans.ch/ 

Anreise Information

  •  From the north: via Landquart - Klosters by car shuttle through the Vereina tunnel (Selfranga - Sagliains) or via the Flüelapass into the Lower Engadin on H27
  • From the east: via Landeck / Austria in the direction of St. Moritz on H27
  • From the south: via Reschenpass (Nauders-Martina) or Ofenpass (Val Müstair-Zernez) on H27

S-chanf is located on the Engadin road H27. Follow the "Parc Naziunel" signage from the village.
