Detailed description:
The history of our monastery, which is still inhabited today, goes back to the year 775. Immerse yourself in the life of the monks and nuns of the past on a guided tour of the church and museum and learn more about the Benedictine nuns of today.
Discover our UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Follow the legendary founder of the monastery Charlemagne and his entourage over the Umbrail Pass and discover rare wall paintings from times long past.
Listen to the sound of the hourly prayer bell in the cloister as it breaks the silence as it did 800 years ago. Then walk past the monastery garden up to the Plantaturm, the oldest residential and defensive tower in the Alps.
In the medieval dormitory, traces of candle flames bear witness to the everyday life of the nuns. Small beds in the baroque nuns' cells pose a mystery today, while the smell of smoke announces a smokehouse as you descend the creaking stairs.
Finally, the light-flooded Juhée offers a view of the mountains. Above the roofs of the monastery, cultural landscape and architecture merge, past and present come together.
