Art as a connecting element of landscape and history
«plomer plajer culer» (layer, fold, flow) is an art and awareness-raising project that brings together cultural actors, artists and scientists. The focus is on visualising traces of time in the landscape and living space of Val Müstair. 2025 is the first of three years of implementation. The eight artists come from Switzerland and the Venosta Valley. They work with different media – videos, drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs and objects are shown. All of them thematise different perceptions of landscape. The landscape is not seen as something static, rather the focus is on movement and change.
The exhibition also combines the views of today's artists with prints by Caspar Wolf (1735 – 1783), which are shown together with photographs by Georg Aerni in the Chasa Jaura. Wolf was one of the first to climb into the Swiss high mountains together with scientists in order to record the various landscape forms with pencil and colour sketches on site. This resulted in prints and oil paintings in the studio, which also popularised the Alps abroad.
«plomer plajer culer» challenges conventional perceptions, promotes a critical examination of environmental issues and encourages reflection on our relationship with nature. Art appeals to emotions, is memorable and makes complex scientific topics more accessible.
