UNESCO World Heritage Day at the Monastery of St. John

Experience the sites of the World Heritage complex in free guided tours, get to know the cultural heritage in a playful way with your family during hands-on activities (sgraffito, dice, painting workshop), learn more about flax (Biosfera) or hand weaving (Tessanda) and fortify yourself with coffee, cake and local delicacies (Meier-Beck, Chasa Chalavaina). The musical finale is a cello and clarinet concert.

Program:

09:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.: Mass and solemn Corpus Christi procession | with Pastor Matthias Rey and Musica Concordia | Müstair Monastery Church

11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.: A house of St. Charles - 1200 years of imagery and its built frame. Guided tour of the church with Prof. Dr. Bernd Nicolai*

12:00 p.m./1:00 p.m./2:45 p.m ./3:45 p.m.: Guided tour of the Chapel of the Holy Cross* | The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a jewel from Carolingian times and can only be visited with a guided tour (duration 50 minutes)

12:15 p.m./1:45 p.m ./2:00 p.m.: Guided tour of the church and monastery museum* | Insight into the more than 1200-year-old history of the monastery (duration 90 minutes)

1:00 p.m./2:00 p.m./3:00 p.m./3:45 p.m.: Guided tour of the murals in the central apse* (duration 30 minutes)

12:00/14:00/15.30: SHOW! Guided tour of the archaeological archive* (duration 50 minutes)


5:30 p.m. - 5:50 p.m.: Liturgy of the Hours of the Benedictine nuns in the monastery church

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.: Concert Eva-Maria Burkard (cello) and Stephan Britt (clarinet)

Afternoon: Homemade dice | Make your own wooden dice and test historical dice games
Afternoon: Sgraffito Workshop | Learn the craft of the sgraffito technique
Afternoon: Open Painting Workshop | Breathe colour into historical motifs with coloured pencils

Various information and product booths of the Biosfera Val Müstair, Tessanda hand weaving mill St. Maria and the monastery of St. Johann Müstair on Plaz Grond

12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Monastery shop open
Afternoon: Festivities of the Chasa Chalavaina as well as coffee and cake by Meier Beck on the Grond square

*Registration required on the day of the event in the monastery shop. The guided tours and the concert are free of charge, but we are happy about every voluntary donation for our restoration work and the musicians.
