Event Müstair
Christmas market with guided tour of textiles from the collection

Description
At the annual Christmas market in Müstair, the monastery of St. Johann will be giving visitors a glimpse into the rooms of the otherwise closed cloister this year. In a themed tour, museum director Romina Ebenhöch will accompany participants into the convent's textile collection and explain the pre-Christmas function and liturgical significance of the textiles in the convent. On display are rare linen damasks from the 16th and 17th centuries, filigree silk embroidery from the mid-18th century, numerous precious paraments and a large collection of Christmas textiles.
Last but not least, there are touching examples of the lively embroidery tradition of the Benedictine nuns of Müstair from around 1900.
